- In Covent Garden: “The 10 Cases”… This new wine bar in Covent Garden has a policy of 10 whites and 10 reds on their list. Pirata was one of their best wine/feed back so far….. The suckling pig is apparently excelent !  Looks rather nice end very decent prices…Pirata by the glass at 6.4£…

Marseille …Savim 2011.

Marseille, deuxième année au salon SAVIM !!

Une grosse galère administrative qui as failli me faire abdiquer…mais bon j’ai quand même pû participé…. Content de revoir des amis exposants, mon cousin Patrick ( Domaine de Saint-Géry) avec sa famille, revoir aussi des clients qui sont venus à Cadaqués ou l’an dernier au SAVIM et des clients professionnels essentiellement de la restauration… et puis cette Capitale de la Méditerranée et son charme fou !

Quelques jours chez mon ami Michel au vallon des Auffes et puis deux nuits magiques à l’Hôtel le Richelieu **, qui hébergeât entre autre “Pati Smith”,  les “Rolling Stones” …et puis récemment Ivo et d’autres vignerons du Languedoc du CLOS DES NINES …. !!

Le stand manquait un peu de photos et de gaieté, j’en conviens, et cela est entièrement de ma faute car je rentrais des USA et avait encore un peu la tête dans les nuages. Pas eu le temps de récupérer et de régler quelques problèmes en suspens, mais heureusement de nouveaux clients étaient là et les anciens aussi ! “Pirata” nouvelle version as beaucoup plu…. tout comme “Sirenes 2010″, la nouveauté de l’année. Le soir diner chez des clients et néanmoins amis:

- “LES FOULARDS ROUGES” , pour sa cuisine franche, sa viande de Toro excellente, sa carte des vins originale et le caractère de ce duo bien attachant : Edouard et Quitterie….

- Le Bistrot d’Edouard, toujours aussi sympathique même si cette année je n’ai pas eu de table (snif, snif…)….Succés indéniable !

Réussi à avoir une table à coté à “La Villa” en me consolant avec un beau plateau de fruits de mer, et même rencontré un ancien de Manchester – comme moi – Le bel et grand Eric, qui dinais là, lui aussi !

..et puis des découvertes sympathiques, grâce à Marc, comme “ LeS aKoLyTeS ” pour un diner de tapas fort convaincantes malgré une liste de vins assez “maigre”, sauvée par une des excellente cuvée d’Embres & Castelmaure ( la cave coopérative qui aurais du être en Catalogne, tellement ils font de bons vins…)

Pour clôturer ce salon en beauté nous avons fêté cela au restaurant de Pere & Olivier, “Le Grain de Sel” – Meilleur Bistrot de l’année par le guide Fooding et Meilleur restaurant Provence par Gault & Millaut ou pour 15€ les invités ont pu déguster 3 tapas avec un verre de chacun de mes vins, ou plus ….à un tarif défiant toute concurrence, vous en conviendrez….

Pour ceux qui viendront à Cadaqués on vous réserveras une surprise pour cet été avec Pere…. régalade assurée !!

New-York Tasting, part One

…. Another few hours and there I will be showing my wines for the FIRST Time ever in NEW-YORK !

In the meantime visit of some places in New-York, walk on the 5th avenue, thinking of my girls for shopping !

Every one said to me, “You’ll love it”… well…. it is a BIG place, full of life, a bit noisy, but my flat is in Greenwhich village, so rather calm …

I find it a bit dirty, road tracks in very bad condition, and quite latin with all these people on bikes going through traffic lights, pavement, and even at night with no lights !

Diner last night in a wine bar: “The Ten Bells“, recommended by my friend and french distributor in Toulouse : Franck Bayard ! Nice place, looks like “MUT”**  in term of what they do for food,

Lunch at  CASA MONO, a very nice “spanish” tapas restaurant place with a very extensive list of nice wines. We had a beautiful red wine from Priorat, vintage 2008. Was there with Jordi Bort General Manager of INCAVI, and Nuria from  A.V.C.  while talking we discovered we had a common friend who was General manager for Sopexa Spain: Olivier Dubuquoy …Small world !!

Nice fruit, medium full bodied tannins, soft and round in mouth. A perfect wine for lunch time…and CATALà , enhorabuena !!

Went to see a film with Bradd Pitt: “Moneyball”, beautiful film, fantastic song, loved it, although I don’t know anything about that sport !

Will there be “Piratas” or “Sirenes” to come and taste & enjoy my wines…. I don’t know ! I just know that the mermaid who is on my label won’t be there …. BUT who is she !! ahahhahaahahaaa

Nobody will ever know ! it’s my secret, I am a pirata from Cadaqués ……. but she knows !

EWBC 2011 in Brescia.

The European Wine Bloggers Conference…

…took part this year in the north of Italy in Brescia. I went there to meet friends from the previous edition which was in Lisboa and meet and deliver wines to my local customers ….

When you are over 250 bloggers the best is to start with a good party…. BYOB !!

Great evening, some a bit nervous seeing so many faces unknown, but with a few glasses shared, exchanged, the evening was just GREAT ! I particularly loved a beautiful Pinot Blanc from Austria – Georgiberg –  and a superbe Dolcetto d’Ovada ( the 1990 Franciacorta El Mosnel was not bad at all tooooo )))

Couldn’t resist the invitation to go out for a beer “unpasteurized”…really nice !

First day: meetings in Santa Giulia… By the way, my daughter is called Giulia not after the Saint but after the “Alfa Romeo Giulia” ))

Plenty of great people, students from Dijon, Portuguese, Savoyards, Spanish, American (lots  :))) ), Austrian, Catalans, French and even Belgium… over 36 nations  !!

Great diner hosted by Franciacorta producers. Very nice indeed !

Missed the meetings int he morning of the second day,….. French rugby team was playing against the Welsh team to be into the final…and WE WON ( French & Catalans..)….

Then I went back to meet again the group & friends and was stopped  ”en-route” by Lionel for a quick lunch.

We ended up in a restaurant I had already been to,( Lo Scultore) … so bloody friendly.

Started to eat, drink and talk with Lionel. Next to us was a single woman was asking for wine, and tasting and commenting in various languages with the owner of the restaurant….

We had’nt seen her at the EWBC, (mind you 280 people… can’t picture everyone, even pretty girls !). Anyway we ended up sharing glasses – of Ripasso della Valpolicella- and came back together for the afternoon talks: The girl was Alexandra Corvo !!

Great tasting at the end of the aftrernoon…. with some top Italians that I already knew and some true discoveries like the delicious wines from Piemonte di Ettore Germano…

Evening went to the “official diner” hosted in La Loggia. The Lord Mayor could not even welcome us in an other language than his “bresciano”..a real plonker !!

Very long & got bored waiting, so I escaped ( à l’anglaise) to go and drink Amarone with a nice  rare steack and some gorgeous local cheese,  in a quieter ambiance and a quick service ! !

I went back to meet the friends for the leaving party…until 3.00 am !!

10.00 am Next day was already time to the leave…a quick way back through France to visit customers ….

I enjoyed it very much again, met new people, saw friends from the business, and had good fun ! Many thanks to Robert, Ryan, Gabriella and to all the others who helped them and make our time there so great.

Now it’s time to relax with some Pirata, Cheeeerrrrrrssss )))

Brescia – Cadaqués: EWBC !

Le Langhe alle 7.30 della mattina.. Langhe at 7.30 am from my bedroom ! 

Ecco qua sono in Italia per alcuni giorni per il EWBC 2011 !  Vado anche da ritrovare amici di Brescia che hanno ordinato “Sirenes de Cadaqués 2010″, “Pirata” e “S’Alqueria 2006″…..

Here I am in Italy for a few days, for EWBC 2011 : La Morra,  (Rocche Costamagna,..) then Verona:  Carlo Venturini dall’azienda agricola Monte dall’Ora and also “il Grande Graziano” & his delicious Soave Azienda Agricola Prà , and final stop in Brescia – Hotel Vittoria – in the heart of Franciacorta !

Michel Peissel, Cadaqués and the World…

Explorateur, passionné,  Michel Peissel explorat dés l’âge de ses 20 ans les territoires les plus reculés, de l’himalaya, du Mexique et même de la Russie. Il traversa le Tibet à pied et à cheval, à maintes reprises à la recherche de la source du Mékong, sur les traces du grizzli ou à la rencontre des tribus minaro ainsi que des civilisations Aztéques du Mexique .

Ses histoires et ses commentaires gastronomiques me faisaient bien rire ( thé à la graisse de Yak, etc…), tout comme son ras le bol de sa Rolex qui ne marchais jamais,……… quant il en avait besoin !

En 1989 il construit une barque viking et traverse l’Union Soviétique à la rame et à la voile, de la Baltique à la Mer Noire, soit 2 500 km, remontant la Dvina et redescendant le Dniepr. Un soir à Cadaqués, il m’avait offert de venir dans son groupe, pour l’accompagner dans ce périple… Je ne l’ai pas fait, manque de folie, trop raisonnable, je ne sait toujours pas….

C’est là, dans sa maison de Cadaqués, que Michel fit une sanguine de Laura.

Dans ces dernières expéditions il avait commencé à peindre et s’essayait sur chacun qui venait prendre un pot chez lui. J’ai chez moi une sanguine de Laura, qu’il avait fait à ses débuts ! Généreux, cultivé, enthousiaste, voilà quelques un des traits qui marquaient “Le” Michel que j’ai connu et que j’admire !

Dans un de ses derniers livres “Tibet le pélerinage impossible”, partez à la découverte de forteresses inaccessibles, monuments disparus, etc… Michel, par ses aquarelles, vous fait vivre un pèlerinage aujourd’ hui impossible à accomplir, un vrai voyage au coeur du Tibet.

Ses romans sont aussi merveilleux à lire et re-lire, pour qui aime l’Aventure et  les expéditions: “Mustang interdit”, “le troisiéme pôle”, “Bhoutan, Royaume d’Asie inconnu”…

La dernière fois que je l’ai vu c’étais pour lui amener, à Paris,  quelques bouteilles de “Pirata” et “S’Alqueria”.  Il étais intrigué par mon projet de vins et enthousiaste. A chacun ses aventures, sûrement !! Il me reste la chance de pouvoir revoir ses enfants, Olivier, Jocelyn, Olivia…
